METALLICA: Video Footage Of 'Iron Man' Rehearsal Posted Online
April 13, 2006A video clip of METALLICA rehearsing their cover of BLACK SABBATH's "Iron Man", which they performed at at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 13 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, has been posted online. Check it out: 300K, 100K, 56K.
METALLICA members Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield inducted BLACK SABBATH into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and joined their bandmates for a medley of SABBATH songs during the induction ceremony. METALLICA ripped into covers of "Hole in the Sky" and "Iron Man", with Hetfield reaching into his highest register to equal Ozzy Osbourne's signature singing style. (View video footage of METALLICA's performance at this location.) Hetfield and Ulrich, in a heartfelt induction, both said their band would not exist without the example of BLACK SABBATH. Afterward, Hetfield told Rolling Stone, "It was like, 'Oh, no, I'm going to start crying,'" he said. "I'd never known it until I had to access all those emotions in front of that crowd, but it just goes to show how much SABBATH mean." Ozzy Osbourne, in a black velvet jacket and a diamond-encrusted crucifix, summed up METALLICA's tribute: "They did fucking better than great!"
